WEEK 7: Commercial Photography

My favourite brand and car, Lamborghini Reventon. This is a plain photo with the latest Lamborghini Reventon in the middle of the road. The angle that the photo was shot simple bring out the elegant of the car itself. To enhance the photo, the artist add only 1 sentences of words and that particular sentence brings out the features of lamborghini brand and this latest model Reventon.

Lamborghini company are promoting the lastest series of Lamborghini car, Reventon that is more powerful than another other cars through the sentence "I'm two German sports cars", is sentence is kinda insult but it maybe true, because in the sports car world, the brand Lamborghini is well known for the performance and design though the price a bit off sometimes but that won't stop people from continuing provide the greatest support.

Demographic
-age between 25-35
-male
-celebrities/artists/Lamborghini fans/people who interested in sports car or limited edition cars
- income range between 100,000-200,000 or more USD/month

Psychographic
-rich/playboy/carefree lifestyle
-proud

The sentence "I'm two German sports cars", in this sentence it shows that although German sports cars are good, but they needed two of them just to get one Lamborghini Reventon. The brand name itself shows the quality of the car, Reventon which is man made and luxurious car all the time.

Through the picture above, we can tell it is a Lamborghini car by just recognize the shape of the car even without the Lamborghini logo. In my opinion, the picture says "You might said that our design look almost the same all the time, BUT we had just born a new car with ultimate performance".

So let's buckle up and enjoy the power of the raging bull.

WEEK 6: Film Appreciation – Assumptions and Contributions of Semiotics

"The Thin Red Line"

Based on the story The Thin Red Line that was aired in week 6 Semiotics class is a story about a few men that was brought in as aid soldiers to join the marine unit that was in desperate need of help, they suffered during the process and eventually build essential discoveries about themselves throughout the vicious World War II in the battle of Guadalcanal.

One of the relationship between the characters and the scene that I have observed would definitely relate to the relationship between Colonel Tall, played by Nick Nolte, and Captain Starros, participated by Elias Koteas. This relationship focus on the question of loyalty, a clash between loyalty to the orders of one's superiors and loyalty to the men beneath one's command. This relationship moves towards a catastrophe when Starros declined an order from Tall to direct an attack on the machine gun pointed to the Japanese. Starros claims that he has lived with them for two and a half years, and will not order them to their deaths. He decides that Starros is not harsh enough to conduct his men. Loyalty to the men beneath one's command must be obeyed in the battlefield.

From my point of view, another outstanding relationship between Private Bell (Ben Chaplin) and his wife Marty (Miranda Otto) that is primarily based on love and is dealt with quite theoretically by Malick. Bell is a former army officer who had been a First Lieutenant in the Philippines. He and his wife had an extremely close, strong relationship and after spending four months separated from his wife in the jungle, he was determined that he wanted to get out and resigned his task. Then, after the battle, Bell received a letter from his wife saying that she has left him for an Air Force captain.

The set of the story was mainly in the Australian jungles and the Solomon Islands. In my opinion, the film maker chose this particular background to blend in with the mode and concept of the storyline and to portray the background during that era. It reflects the story mode as viewers are able to connect visuals throughout the story. It relates and connects certain elements that are bold to follow up with the flow of the storyline. The props of this story are picked to blend in with the story mode and are relevant as it gives a certain feel to the story.

WEEK 5 : Semiotic and Reading Film

The film Titanic is written and directed by James Cameron,
It is an epic action-packed romance set against the
ill-fated maiden voyage of the passenger liner Titanic.

Reading Characters and the Stereotypes they represent:-

Kate Winslet stars as a young upper class American called Rose DeWitt Bukater who falls for a free-spirited steerage passenger, Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

In this film, James Cameron has highlighted the concept of class by positioning the story of
Jack and Rose against the backdrop of the sinking of the Titanic.
The fact is that the two characters are from the two extremes of the CLASS SYSTEM.

Rose was a beautiful young rich girl in the film. She boards the RMS Titanic and as a first-class passenger. She was forced into an engagement to 30-year-old Caledon Hockley by her mother, Ruth so that can maintain their high-class status.
Jack was the film's poor guy who lucks into a ticket on the maiden voyage of the Titanic. He won his way via a poker match. He doesn't quite fit in on the ship though as everyone is rich and stuck up and Jack is just an innocent country boy.

Another stereotype of the time that is raised by the film is that of race. As the ship sinks, many of the third or steerage class passengers, who cannot speak English, have no way of knowing what they should do, consequently they fail to escape. Additionally, we also see the differences in culture between the two classes - the strict and ordered world of first class and the spirited life of steerage.

The conclusions that have come to is of the prime importance during the early twentieth century of the concept of ‘class’; the upper and lower class system whereby the lower class should know their place.

The Complexities :-
When Cal Hockley discovers that Rose has been spending time with Jack he's furious and has Jack arrested on some fake charges of theft. At the movie's end Jack turns down a lifeboat at first so that he can go back and search for Rose who refused a lifeboat to search for Jack. Rose comes back to save him but then hogs the wood that Jack found for them both to rest on and he dies.

Back up Statements with evidence from the film :-
Rose's mother wants her to marry one man who is rich and believes that she must personally see to it that her daughter marries into another family of prestige and wealth. Rose disagrees with this and she wants to love another Jack. She was contemplating killing herself by jumping into the ocean but was stopped by Jack. Then, she feels alive with Jack as she never truly had to take risks for herself considering the sheltered life she has led. Rose surrenders herself to Jack who paints her and ultimately loves her.
